When you receive your beautiful new canvas art from Moncasso, one of the first things you'll want to do is display it proudly on your wall. But what's the best way to hang it? In this guide, we'll walk you through the two easiest methods so you get your art up on the wall and transforming your space sooner.
Tools You’ll Need
Hanging your canvas art is simple, and you'll only need a few household tools. Before you start, make sure you have the following tools on hand:
- Pencil: For marking the exact spot where you want to hang your canvas.
- Tape Measure or Ruler: To ensure precise measurements and placement.
- Hammer: Essential for driving nails or screws into the wall.
- Nails or Screws: Choose nails or screws that are appropriate for the size and weight of your canvas. Wall anchors can be used for added stability, especially for larger pieces.
- Level: To ensure your canvas is hung straight and evenly.
- Adhesive Strips (Optional): If you prefer not to use nails or screws, these are a great alternative, particularly for lighter canvases and to avoid damaging new walls.
Why We Don’t Include Hanging Kits 🌱🫶
At Moncasso, we’re committed to sustainability and reducing waste. After gathering feedback from our customers, we found that most people prefer to use their own nails or screws, as these allow the canvas to sit flush against the wall, creating a clean, modern look. Including additional hanging kits often resulted in unnecessary waste, which is why we chose to discontinue them. However, if you do need a hanging kit, we’re happy to send one your way - just let us know!
Option 1: Hanging with Nails or Screws
Nails or screws are the simplest and most popular method for hanging your canvas. This method allows your artwork to rest flush against the wall, which is how it’s intended to be displayed. There’s no need to use strings or chords, which can cause the canvas to lean away from the wall.
Here’s how to do it in three easy steps:
Step 1 - Mark the Spot: Hold the canvas up to the wall and use a pencil to mark where the top edge of the canvas will be.
Step 2 - Insert the Screw or Nail: Hammer a nail or screw into the wall at the marked spot. Ensure it’s securely in place and sturdy enough to support the weight of your artwork. For larger canvases, consider using a wall anchor for extra stability.*
Step 3 - Hang the Canvas: Place the canvas onto the nail or screw, letting it rest flush against the wall. Use a level to ensure it’s straight.
Option 2: Hanging with Adhesive Strips
Adhesive strips are a great alternative for those who prefer not to use nails or screws, especially for lighter canvases. They are particularly useful if you want to avoid damaging new or freshly painted walls. Just make sure that the strips are rated to hold the weight of your canvas.
Here’s how you can hang your artwork using this method:
Step 1 - Prepare the Wall and Canvas: Clean the wall with rubbing alcohol to ensure the adhesive sticks well. Attach the adhesive strips to the back of the canvas, following the manufacturer’s instructions.
Step 2 - Position and Press: Hold the canvas up to the wall and press firmly to ensure the strips adhere properly. Make sure the canvas is level before applying pressure.
Step 3 - Secure and Adjust: After pressing the canvas to the wall, gently pull the canvas away to ensure the strips have adhered, then press again for a final hold. Check to make sure it’s straight.*
Final Tips
- Choose the Right Spot: Consider the height and surrounding decor when deciding where to hang your canvas. A good rule of thumb is to hang the center of the canvas at eye level, typically around 57-60 inches from the floor.
- Double-Check Your Tools: Whether you’re using nails, screws, or adhesive strips, make sure they’re appropriate for the size and weight of your canvas.
- Make Sure It Is Secure: Ensure you use the appropriate hanging equipment for the size and weight of your art and wall type to hold it securely and safely. Use a professional hanging services where appropriate.
Hanging your Moncasso artwork should be a straightforward and enjoyable process. If you follow these simple steps, you'll have your new piece beautifully displayed in no time. And remember, if you ever need a hanging kit or additional assistance, don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
